Spiritual Grounding With Crystals

Recently I keep getting asked about grounding, this blog should hopefully make it clearer what grounding is and how you can incorporate it into your life.

In this modern world it is so easy to be swept up and constantly focused on trying to get through the day. Life is just work and there is no time to care for your spiritual needs and connecting with the real world, this is why grounding is incredibly important. 

What is Grounding? 

Grounding is connecting back to the Earth, taking a moment and almost like a reset. It is putting your negative energy back into the Earth, you do not need it and it’s time to let it go. Like I have said in previous blogs, energy is not good or bad, it is simply just energy and we should only keep hold of the energy that is serving us and the life we want right now. Grounding clears your mind and allows you to see your life clearly and allows you to be more present.

What is a Grounding Cord?
Every single person on the planet has a grounding cord, this is an ethereal cord that joins us to the Earth and holds our souls and spirits. People who can see auras may be able to see these cords, otherwise these cords are not visible. The cords work by letting your negative energy flow through them and back into the Earth. 

How to Practice Grounding
Grounding can be as simple as having your feet on the ground and taking a few deep breaths. You can develop this by holding a grounding crystal (see recommendations later in this blog). You can also ground with reiki stones or tapping practices. There are so many great ideas out there for grounding, however a great place to start is crystals. 

Grounding sessions
For a grounding exercise that has more structure you can have a grounding session. 
  • Choose a grounding crystal 
  • Stand with your bare feet on the floor
  • Have your hands on your hips 
  • Hold your chosen grounding crystal in your hand
  • Close your eyes
  • Visualise the negative energy flowing down towards your feet and into the Earth
  • Hold for 5 minutes or until you feel less heavy


Do not be hard on yourself if you find it difficult at first, even I do! My brain is constantly telling me other things I should be thinking about when I’m trying to meditate or ground. If this is you too, just accept the thought and let it pass, trying to resist the thought will just make it more of an issue. 

 The position you should hold

When should I Ground?  
Grounding can be done at anytime. However make sure you have a quite space where you won’t be disturbed if you are going to be practicing a full grounding session. 
Ground when everything feels a bit much, when you are feeling stressed or like everything is out of your control.

There are more crystals that can be used, this is just what I would recommend! Use whatever feels right for you! 

  • Smokey Quartz
  • Red Jasper
  • Black Agate
  • Citrine
  • Moonstone
  • Bloodstone
  • Tree Agate (nature grounding)
